Micronexx: Case Studies

The Micronexx team of professional developers, customer service staff, and high performance application hosting environment have sucessfully met a variety of customers' internet business goals. From online eCommerce stores to factory and warehouse automation, we have helped businesses to grow with unique, results driven solutions to their unique problems.

Micronexx assists manufacturer of custom architectural products with high powered eCommerce website, and factory automation.

The Problem: Our customer manufactures customizable one of a kind products including elegant doors, architectural millwork, and unique interiors. Our customer wanted a better way to communicate with the builders, architects and developers who use and specify their products. Additionally, our customer wanted to upgrade their manufacturing facility to use technology to integrate their order processing, costing, scheduling and shipping, as well as to introduce CAD/CAM and CIM to their plant.

The Solution: Micronexx developed an interactive, eCommerce website that quickly provided end users with detailed specifications and instant quotes on complex products with literally thousands of degrees of configuration. Quotes can be turned into orders, with complete CAD drawings, renderings, accurate material lists, costs and schedule estimates, with very little cost to our customer.

The website was then integrated with a Micronexx built manufacturing system that coordinates most aspects of the factory with integrated materials purchasing, cost and time tracking at the project, job and unit level.

A final degree of automation and integration was achieved when a number of the factories CNC machines and industrial robots where tied into a real time, wireless network that automated the programming of the equipment.

The Result: Our customer has an up to the minute view of their production schedule, costs, and material demand. Furthermore, there have been tremendous labor savings in the areas of drafting, machining, programming and estimating. For example, estimating custom millwork in the past may have taken several hours per unit. It is now accomplished instantly, at a cost near zero. Our time tracking system continues to help the manufacturer identify high cost operations as targets for future automation, and justify the automation costs with hard cost data.

An additional benefit has been increased traffic and revenue to the customers website, as well has heightened search engine visibility, conversion ratios, and product demand. Micronexx has helped a business that does not really fit the "Internet Retail Mould" to become a leading provider of its products into a legacy market, while upgrading a 1930s manufacturing facility into a state-of-the-art, 21st century automated plant.

Micronexx Helps Large Publisher Reduce Inventory and Increase Customer Satisfaction.

The Problem: Our customer, a world-wide publisher of technical information, had a large customer base that wanted the most current information, as quickly as possible.

The builders, architects and engineers that rely on our customer's publications every day had a need for a faster and more convenient ordering and shipping system than traditional telephone orders and UPS delivery.

The Solution: The publisher purchases Micronexx' WebDoxx Document Delivery system.

The WebDoxx system is a turn-key on-line store that takes secure electronic orders and immediately fulfills them through downloadable PDF files or immediate fax transmission. The system can be accessed by Subscription accounts, "Pay Per Drink" individual purchases, Unlimited and metered downloads.

Electronic order-taking, or "eCommerce," has moved from a position of an added shopping convenience to an absolute necessity for doing busing today. Micronexx pioneered web-based ordering with the WebDoxx system. From the start, WebDoxx took eCommerce to its full extent--by providing a system for both order entry and immediate fulfillment, WebDoxx maximizes the opportunities of the Internet by providing a 100% automated order- entry, receipt-generation, product transmission and order log system that is available to any customer with an Internet connection and any business with a web site.

The Result: Our customer has a 24-hour on-line store that operates through the latest technologies available. The company's world-wide customer base receives the information they need, delivered immediately to their PC or fax machine. A valuable service is provided to the company's customers while reducing physical inventory and customer service personnel.

Micronexx' Out-Sourced Internet Support Desk Helps Customers To Launch New Businesses With No Additional Staff.

The Problem: Your company has created a new electronic business initiative, but your current staff is not trained in technology services.

The builders, architects and engineers that rely on our customer's publications every day had a need for a faster and more convenient ordering and shipping system than traditional telephone orders and UPS delivery.

As technology moves further and further away from the print and mail-based physical systems businesses have traditionally used, companies have branched-out into myriad CD and web-based electronic products, eCommerce, and interactive web sites with various services

Businesses are enormously successful at designing and marketing their products. However, often they are less accomplished at the technical support that goes hand-in-hand with these electronic products or on- line ways of transacting business.

If your business is the design and marketing of widgets, you know widgets-- not credit card validation software, secure servers or DNS. If your new documentation is being produced on CD-ROM, you're more likely familiar with the content of the disks than with debugging proxy configurations, Java run-time errors, TCP/IP setups, or client-server issues.

The Solution: The company subscribes to Micronexx support desk services.

The Micronexx support desk includes an on-line support web site with FAQ database, 800-number support lines, e-mail order confirmation and receipts, and internal on-line support tools for both Micronexx technicians and customers' sales, accounting or service representatives. The support desk is fully customized to fit each company's unique needs. With no extra personnel, Micronexx' customers are immediately able to support every new electronic product in their catalog or any on-line business for their existing products.

The Result: This is a great way for companies to get moving on the Internet. There is no staff to hire and no hardware to purchase. Customer service is very important, and setting up a staff that is familiar with electronic credit card processing, network debugging, web servers and software is difficult. Micronexx has an immediate turnkey solution that allows our customers to focus on what they do best--their business.

Micronexx enables Large Electrical Components Distributor for eCommerce.

The Problem: Interface a complex legacy order processing system to the Internet with minimal impact to the existing architecture.

Our customer, a large distributor of electrical components, had a need to deal with customers, partners and distributors electronically over the Internet. The company recognized a customer need for a Web-based solution. However, the existing order entry and inventory system runs on a platform written in COBOL, which offers no easy way to take orders from the Internet. The problem was further compounded by an IT staff that was overtaxed and could not fully devote their energies to solving the problem.

The Solution: Micronexx was contracted to Web-Enable our customer's order entry system.

Micronexx, a leading web development firm, used Java, a state-of-the-art cross-platform programming language, to build a web-based interface to our customer's mainframe back end systems. The Micronexx staff, highly experienced in adapting up-to-date technologies to older systems, quickly built a real time interface for older system. The new interface required no programming from the company's staff, nor did the company need to budget additional hardware or personnel to run or maintain the system.

The Result: Our customer can now take electronic orders via the Internet without impacting its legacy systems.

Some of the major advantages of this approach are speed, efficiency and cost. The Micronexx solution attached state-of-the-art technology to an older existing information infrastructure without ever requiring system downtime, hardware upgrades or additional resource expenditure. The company's customers benefit from the immediacy and universal accessibility of the Internet. Ultimately, by running on the Java language, the new electronic order entry interface will be compatible across any client-customer platform that the company may experience, and will be adaptable to changes that the system may undergo in the future.

Micronexx Develops Web-Based Product Configuration Tool For Manufacturer.

The Problem: Our customer, a manufacturer of breathing equipment, needed to create a universally-accessible tool to help determine safe product life.

The company has a wide line of breathing safety products and its clients need to know exactly how long their equipment will safely last before needing to be changed. To compete in their market, our customer wanted to project an image of technically sophisticated products. At the same time, the company wanted to make available to their customers, via the web, very specific technical information about their products.

The Solution: Micronexx was contracted to build a Java database and product life calculator for our customer's website.

The calculator takes the parameters of a given product and calculates, using customers' provided environmental variables, the exact performance of the product.

The final calculation results give users both a working figure to guide breathing cartridge usage and lifetime, and a printable document to file with their safe working conditions compliance information.

By combining the free cartridge replacement calculator with its web site, the company is able to provide a valuable service to its customers while leveraging its products in the marketplace. Visitors wishing to use the state-of-the-art calculation tool roll over to increased traffic to the corporate web site.

The Result: Our customer simply installs the Java application into its existing website. The application requires no additional programming, personnel or hardware. Customers everywhere can access the calculation tool at any time of day to determine the safe lifetime of their breathing equipment. The company provides a hassle-free way to promote their products and their experience in the field while providing an invaluable service to the customer.
